The menu is a testament to the rich diversity of Korean cooking. Whether you're a fan of sizzling BBQ, hearty stews, or flavorful rice dishes, there's something for everyone. The signature dish at Han Bat Restaurant is the famed “bibimbap,” a savory rice dish topped with an assortment of vegetables, a fried egg, and your choice of protein, all seasoned with spicy gochujang sauce. It's a perfect balance of textures and flavors, providing a satisfying and fulfilling meal. The stone bowl bibimbap, in particular, is a must-try, as it delivers the added bonus of a crispy rice layer that complements the dish beautifully.

For those looking to dive deeper into Korean comfort food, the menu features a variety of stews such as the rich and spicy “kimchi jjigae,” a kimchi stew made with tofu, pork, and vegetables. Another popular dish is the “galbi,” Korean short ribs that are marinated to perfection and grilled to a smoky, tender finish. These dishes are often accompanied by a variety of banchan (small side dishes) that enhance the meal and offer a true taste of Korean hospitality. The side dishes, such as kimchi, pickled radishes, and steamed vegetables, provide a perfect contrast to the main dishes, adding complexity and texture.

Han Bat Restaurant also takes pride in serving fresh and flavorful seafood options. The “haemul pajeon,” a savory seafood pancake, is a popular starter that combines tender shrimp, squid, and green onions, all fried to crispy perfection. It's a favorite for diners looking to indulge in seafood that's both crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

What sets Han Bat Restaurant apart is not only its exceptional food but also the genuine experience it offers. The service is attentive and friendly, with staff members who are happy to guide you through the menu and suggest dishes based on your preferences. • The sweetest little grandma runs this soup shop and it feels so homely!! We loved the soups we ordered, and will definitely be going back again! If you’re looking for nostalgic Korean soup, this is the humblest, most affordable place, 10/10!

  • This place is a true hole-in-the-wall — simple, almost raw décor — but the food more than makes up for it. I’ve had the beef brisket soup and a few of their other dishes, and everything has been consistently delicious. It’s the kind of spot you’re really glad to have in the neighborhood. Great flavors, great value, and always satisfying. Highly recommend.

  • The theme/concept of this restaurant, serving just 1 type of food, is very popular in Korea and known to do well. Han bat has been doing this for a long time, serving just seolleongtang with kimchi. Kimchi itself is also one of the best in Chicago as well. It's so simple yet amazing. I need at least 2 bowls of rice every time I come here. Just a reminder, it is a cash only place, does have ATM inside. It's worth every penny, and it is best when you need a hangover soup. They also open at 10 am, earlier than most of restaurant, which is a huge plus too.

  • Authentic Korean soups that is very simple, clean and tasty. Soup comes with homemade kimchi and radish along with green onions and rice. Soup base is very simple and is not salted so you have to salt to taste. Although the soup is simple, the combination with the side dishes is perfect.

  • A no-frill & comforting mom-and-pop-style Korean restaurant that serves hearty Seolleongtang, perfect for a rainy or cold winter day. The broth is rich and soothing, and the kimchi and radish banchan complement the meal nicely. Note that this place is cash only, though there is an ATM inside the restaurant.

  • A very no frills, owner-couldn’t-give-a-heck-about-you type experience and it was awesome. I got the beef brisket soup and it came with a side of kimchi, radish kimchi, rice, and green onions. The soup when it arrives is pretty mild but they give you everything you need to add some flavor. The brisket was good, the kimchi was amazing, and the tea (I think Barley?) was also great. Definitely more of a winter spot but not terrible on a summer day either! It is cash only with a no-fee ATM inside.

  • I actually don’t remember how long I’ve been coming here but well over a decade. This is my type of Korean food…I just love soups. Menu is simple with beef based soup and different type of meat option. Don’t bring your vegan or vegetarian friends here . The waitress/owner is lovely lady. Covid has been rough for them due to staff shortage so just be patient and understanding.

  • Truly a hidden gem, Han bat restaurant is totally worth it. If you have never had Korean soups this is the place you should start your adventure with. Both the Kimchi’s are the best you will find and have. The chef / owner makes it and is unbelievable. It reminded me of a time when I was in Korea and had kimchi that was similar.
